Alcohol and diet - does this combination make any sense?

According to nutrition experts, a rigorous approach to the diet does not bring good results. After all, we are only human, and each of us should have a break from the nutritional regime from time to time. However, do minor deviations from the diet also apply to the consumption of alcohol? Does this combination make any sense?

Alcohol and diet - negative effects

For many people on a diet, alcohol consumption, which is not without reason seen as a real evil when it comes to a slim body and getting rid of the excess weight, is avoided. One of the worst effects of consuming alcoholic beverages is, above all, providing the body with empty calories - the lack of any nutritional value makes every alcohol virtually useless.

Another and equally unfavourable characteristic of alcohol is its real effect on reducing the metabolic rate. Metabolism will first focus on the breakdown of alcohol into the form of simple sugars, which will then be deposited in the form of adipose tissue. However, this is not the end of the story, because the fatty acids supplied with the diet are also stored! It is not difficult to guess that the systematic consumption of alcoholic beverages will promote weight gain.

It has been known for some time now that drinking alcohol increases appetite. During parties or feasts, one can feel hunger extremely quickly, which, combined with excessive relaxation and a good mood, can cause temptation! People on a weight loss diet need to be aware that the consumption of alcoholic beverages has an incredibly important impact on achieving the desired result in achieving a slim body. It is also worth mentioning that after a full-blown party there is often a hangover and a hard to control the desire to eat fatty fast food.

What should you know about drinking alcohol while on a diet?

The right approach is key. Knowing the impact of alcohol on the daily diet and the body can help avoid many negative consequences. Although much of the guidance presented below seems logical, a large number of people forget to use it in practice - this is an ideal moment to recall this advice:

  • avoid coloured and sweet alcohol - beer, liqueurs and drinks with juices provide more calories due to the high content of simple carbohydrates
  • dry wine will be the best choice, which does not increase the appetite too quickly
  • when deciding to buy a drink, choose alcohol with natural additions such as mineral water, lemon juice or tomato juice
  • before the planned event, it is worth having a solid meal - a rich amount of protein, healthy fats and fibre will ensure a long feeling of satiety and reduce the amount of food you eat after the drinks.
  • after each drink or glass of alcohol, it is worthwhile to drink a glass of water, which will improve the digestion of the drink
  • mixing alcohol with water is just as good a way to outsmart the body and make it easier to spread the consumption of alcohol over time
