Hydration of the body in the autumn. Why is it so important?

Although great thirst is associated primarily with hot summers and holidays, the important role of water in the rest of the year cannot be underestimated. The hydration of the body in autumn is an equally important issue for the proper functioning of the metabolism. What is worth knowing about it? What are the effective ways to maintain an optimal level of fluids in the body?

Hydration of the body in the autumn - a solid portion of valuable minerals

The consumption of large quantities of fresh fruit is a fundamental way of providing the body with many valuable minerals. Unfortunately, the autumn/winter period deprives the body of this possibility, and limited access to seasonal fruit can lead significantly to an increased risk of deficiencies. Therefore, hydrating the body in the autumn is one of the key elements in preventing it from becoming deficient! Mineral water is a rich source of valuable elements such as:

  • calcium - supports the correct condition of bones and teeth, regulates the correct functioning of muscles, promotes the favourable functioning of digestive enzymes
  • magnesium - has a positive effect on the work of the nervous system, supports proper energy metabolism, eliminates the feeling of tiredness and fatigue and supports proper protein  synthesis
  • potassium - helps regulate blood pressure
  • sodium and chlorine - promote an optimal acid-base balance

In addition, mineral water can be further enriched with a number of other ingredients, such as sulphate or iodine.

Hydration of the body in the autumn - healthy skin condition

Low temperatures and cold air are certainly not favourable for the body. Poor atmospheric conditions often result in a deterioration of the skin's condition causing a decrease in its firmness, deterioration of its hydration and a much greater tendency to damage (e.g. unsightly cracking, which may increase the risk of wounds and infections). Hydration of the body in the autumn is extremely valuable for the skin, especially in the context of maintaining its elasticity and firmness. What is more, water facilitates the removal of accumulated secondary metabolites and toxins that can promote, among other things, the progressive process of ageing.

Hydration of the body in the autumn - support for the nervous system

When it comes to hydration in the autumn, the nervous system cannot be forgotten. Problems with concentration or clear difficulties with logical thinking may result from insufficient fluid intake, which is at the same time associated with the previously mentioned mineral (especially magnesium) deficiencies.

Hydration of the body in the autumn - water suppresses appetite

The autumn-winter period and the cold weather have a major impact on the appetite. The work of the digestive system causes an increase in body temperature, which is, in a way, one of the body's ways of keeping the necessary heat. On the other hand, it cannot be denied that excessive calories in the diet will promote an increase in body weight and the accumulation of fat tissue. Therefore, proper hydration of the body in the autumn and regular drinking of water will make it possible to stop hunger and also make it easier to control the correct weight.
