A healthy barbecue - is it possible?

Summer, sun and relaxation by the water. Many people cannot imagine this combination without a barbecue with friends. But is it possible to prepare a healthy barbecue and have a party with friends without risking your diet? Here are some simple tips to solve this problem!

A healthy barbecue: choose lean meat

For most, a barbecue means the consumption of hard to digest and fatty foods. Sausages, black pudding, pork neck and other options appear on the grill, but despite their delicious taste, they are not a very good choice. Most of them put a lot of strain on the digestive tract and don't provide as much valuable protein. So for a healthy barbecue, choose white and lean chicken or turkey - spiced wings, breast or drumsticks are equally tasty options. Another alternative may be fish, which additionally contains valuable omega-3 fatty acids with beneficial properties for the cardiovascular system and the nervous system, among others.

A healthy barbecue: choose your vegetables

Vegetables don't necessarily have to be a side dish. Many people prefer a plant-based diet, so prepare vegan and vegetarian options. Grilled courgettes, aubergines, oyster mushrooms, sweetcorn or mushrooms are easy to digest and equally tasty options for your guests. Especially since they are fat-free, they prolong the feeling of satiety and limit snacking during a meeting with friends. In addition, don't forget salads, which are a good change from heavy meat dishes.

A healthy barbecue: home-made sauces and marinades

Grilled dishes without the addition of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and many other sauces seem impossible. Just like marinades, which are used to give the right flavour to meat and vegetables to be grilled. Those who love healthy barbecues can make a commitment and prepare their own sauces to cut down on unnecessary calories and protect their diet from excessive amounts of sugar and salt. Instead of using poor-quality fat for the marinade, you can use olive oil with your favourite spices. Sauces can be made with natural yoghurt, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and many other vegetables. The Internet is full of interesting recipes for healthy barbecues. Remember the spices! Many of them support the digestive system, which prevents indigestion and the feeling of overeating!

A healthy barbecue: give up coloured drinks

Although for many people alcohol, especially beer, is an indispensable part of the barbecue, it is worth giving up sweetened fizzy drinks. The sugar they contain raises the glucose level in the blood, which encourages fat gain and hunger. A much better choice is refreshing water with pieces of fruit (e.g. lemon, raspberry, apple) and aromatic herbs (e.g. mint, rosemary or thyme) - an ideal alternative without unnecessary calories and sugar, which will help quench your thirst on even the hottest days.
