4 ideas for training on the beach

Water holidays are often associated with non-stop lying down and sunbathing. However, no one said your holiday has to be marked by inactivity! For active lifestyle lovers, here are 4 beach workout ideas that will be a great break from the blissful laziness and an alternative to swimming.

Workout on the beach with your own body weight

One of the easiest ways to get active is to do body weight exercises - they require no additional equipment and can be done anywhere on the beach. This type of workout also involves all your muscles, so you can keep fit on holiday. Which exercises can you do?

  • crunches
  • squats
  • running at a standstill
  • standing and turning
  • straight and side plank
  • different variants of push-ups

In addition to the classic activities, a number of other positions and movements can be used which will have a stronger effect of stretching, improving mobility and strengthening deep muscles, such as the hollow body, worm, head-down dog or cat-cow. However, nothing prevents you from adding variety to your workout with simple objects. Water bottles, handy mini band resistance bands by Olimp Sport Nutrition or a backpack filled with stuff can serve as an additional load, which will enable you to better engage your body.

Yoga on the beach is also a workout

Fans of less intensive workouts can use a sleeping pad or beach towel to practice yoga. Asanas are an ideal solution to work on body mobility and regulate breathing "without unnecessary tension". Although many people find yoga not very absorbing and boring, in reality it is just as effective. It is worth concentrating on the movements and ensuring the correct technique - then the muscles, joints, ligaments and other structures will receive numerous stimuli to improve their functioning.

Running on the beach

If the beach is large and provides plenty of distance, you can opt for a more or less intense running route. Running training on the sand, especially without shoes, has many valuable health benefits, including peeling the skin, a stronger involvement of deep muscles, and a more favourable effect on shaping the foot arch. However, it is worth remembering that running on the beach has its disadvantages, e.g. it can cause injuries due to uneven ground, and the stones and shells that can be found can lead to injuries.

Beach volleyball

On most beaches there are playgrounds for volleyball matches. A beach volleyball match is a great way to spend your free time actively together with friends and children. Not to mention the many benefits for your body and fitness! The game can be played in pairs or with more people - the competitive element further engages the participants in the fun. A good way to spice things up is to have a prize to boost the desire to do your best!
