If we analyse the physical effort of people who practice endurance sports, we will see that very often their activity changes quite a lot, dynamic starts, quick changes of direction, rapid stops and speed-ups, and covering great distances at once with varied speed which smoothly interchanges, creating high-intensity training. In such conditions, the anaerobic mechanisms of energy production are completed by aerobic transformations which in the end constitute the dominant source of energy generated by the body to meet the demands of exercise. That is why a well-composed supplementation should include top-quality supplements, which allow the body to maintain the high efficiency of anaerobic and aerobic energy production processes (e.g.ENDUGEN™).

However, focus should be put on creating such nutritional conditions (with the use of advanced supplementation) that would enable the fastest possible regeneration after intense physical exercise, and to achieve a state of supercompensation of energy (carbohydrates) and building stores (proteins).

The best workout progress can be achieved with the consistency guaranteed by the proper nutrition of the body and regeneration of its energetic stores. During and after intense exercise the muscle fibres become damaged, the energy reserves (muscle and liver glycogen) get depleted, and the nervous system becomes fatigued. Consuming well-composed meals at proper times is crucial when it comes to the body's efficiency during physical exercise, and to post-workout regeneration. From the moment the body becomes exhausted, it intensifies the regeneration of energy reserves (the rebuilding of glycogen stores), and the synthesis of protein in order to rebuild damaged muscle fibres.

This period is called compensation (Chart 1). If the restitution process is conducted properly immediately after exercise, it is possible to reach the stage of supercompensation, that is the over-restoration of the energetic and building compounds in the muscles, above physiological values. This is exactly the purpose of exercising.

After this is achieved, the next step is to plan the training cycle in such a way so that effort appears in the peak supercompensation phase increasing exercise capabilities and accelerating training progress.

The ideal way to speed up supercompensation is to use personalized supplementation based on the newest trends in advanced dietary supplementation in professional sports.

There is no doubt that all requirements set for this type of products are met by the energetic gel prepared for use after workout: STAND-BY™ recovery gel with Endurance Sport ™/Olimp Sport Nutrition®:
it is an excellent, concentrated source of energy for the physically active, to be used after intensive exercise. 1 portion contains 45g of pure carbohydrates from 5 sources, each of which is characterized by different absorption kinetics. Research (1) shows that consuming highly-absorbable carbohydrates after workout greatly accelerates the rebuilding of muscle glycogen stores, better than when this macro substance is omitted. Over 10g of well-absorbable protein in the recommended daily dose.
Research (2) proves that consuming protein directly after exercise may increase the rate of protein synthesis in the muscle cells by up to 291%.

Chart 3. The influence of consuming protein and exercise on the nitrogen balance of the body. The combination of physical exercise and protein consumed directly afterwards brings the best results in terms of the nitrogen balance of the body that could be linked with increased protein synthesis.

According to research results (3, 4), simultaneous intake of proteins/amino acids and carbohydrates, as in the case of STAND-BY™ recovery gel, increases the rate of muscle protein synthesis much more efficiently than carbohydrates alone. STAND-BY™ recovery gel is additionally enhanced by a portion of BCAA.
The most recent clinical trials on humans (5) show that branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) have a limiting effect on the damage to the muscles after exercise, observed as a decrease in the concentration of creatine kinase in the blood plasma (Chart 3) and the reduction of local muscle pain (Chart 4) thus accelerating muscle regeneration.

The remaining ingredients display a fully synergistic effect in supporting the metabolic processes related to protein and carbohydrate transformations (vit. B6, vit. B12, magnesium). The addition of antioxidants (vit. C, E) protects the proteins from the degrading influence of free radicals that form in great amounts during prolonged physical effort. Moreover, vitamins C and E may help reduce the delayed onset muscle soreness (6). The addition of sodium ions (Na+) – these ions play a key role in the quick rehydration and restoration of the water-electrolyte balance of the body after intense physical effort(7)
