Is it a good idea to use a solarium?

Summer and sun are unequivocally associated with a beautiful tan. However, some sun enthusiasts can't wait until the summer holidays and decide to tan in beauty salons using UV radiation. Is it a good idea to use a solarium? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

What are the pros and cons of using a solarium?

An undoubted advantage of going to a solarium is the possibility to keep a nicely tanned body all year round. In some cases it may be especially important e.g. when you want to look good during a business meeting or during a company or family event. Especially that a stay in a solarium does not last too long - just a few minutes of use are enough to get a nice tan. What's more, exposure can stimulate the production of endorphins and improve your mood. Modern beauty parlours or SPA salons have lamps that emit UVB radiation. Thanks to this, a visit can be a valuable support in terms of vitamin D production, which, as we know, is synthesised in the skin under the influence of sunlight.

However, it is hard to deny that regular sessions in a solarium are bad for your health. The vision of having a year-round tan is dictated by many disadvantages:

  • concentrated beams of radiation from tanning lamps are much stronger than sunlight, which unfortunately accelerates the ageing process of the skin and contributes to the damage to its natural elastin and collagen deposits
  • frequent visits to a solarium lead to the deterioration of skin condition, which over time becomes dehydrated, lacks elasticity and is prone to excessive sebum production resulting in acne
  • in some cases, the use of a solarium can cause unsightly discolouration
  • unskillful (i.e. too intensive) tanning in a solarium can cause burns - it is often mentioned that artificial tanning increases the chance of developing skin cancer

Tanning bed use and dietary supplements - what's worth using?

Olimp Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company, has developed a dietary supplement, which has been created especially for persons who tan or use solariums. The formula of Beta-SOLAR is a well-thought combination of vitamins and minerals, which help the organism in many ways. The ingredients contained in the product support the protection of cells against the adverse effects of oxidative stress, promote healthy skin condition, and support its correct pigmentation. The composition has been additionally enriched with several valuable components with antioxidant properties, which is an additional form of protection against the adverse effects of solar radiation.

The supplement was developed according to pharmaceutical standards. The product is free from heavy metal contamination, which is guaranteed by tested and microbiologically clean raw materials. In turn, the optimally selected proportions ensure an effective supplementation of the daily diet and a real support.
